Litchfield by the Sea – Pawleys Island: Fun Things to Do

Enjoy these fun things to do in Pawleys Island.  History and enchanting folklore abound in the “Low Country”. Georgetown is a history seaport located just ten minutes south of Pawleys Island. Attractions include tours of grand old estates and plantations that provide a glimpse into the past when rice was king, indigo was a major commodity, and Georgetown was the wealthiest county in the new nation.

Brookgreen Gardens offers one of the finest collection of outdoor sculpture and botanical gardens in the world. It is just a quick five-minute drive north. Tour the award winning gardens, native aviary and wildlife areas. Special cultural events, films, lectures and performing arts programs are offered throughout the year.

Litchfield by the Sea is a golfers paradise. There are thirteen challenging golf courses in our immediate area (over 100 along the entire Grand Strand), designed by notable greats that include Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye and Tom Fazio. Tennis courts can be reserved at Litchfield Country Club. Health club and spa facilities are also available.

Other activities include fishing in the surf for seasonal selections or flounder fishing, shrimping and crabbing in the salt water creeks. Nothing compares to an evening meal of fresh seafood. Enjoy the quiet solitude of the creeks as you wait for a nibble on your line. Inshore and Gulf Stream fishing excursions are available on charters from Murrells Inlet and Georgetown. Ocean fishing piers are located from Garden City to Myrtle Beach. Boat rentals are also available at various locations.

Among this myriad of activities, the area also offers fantastic shopping in beautiful villages such as the famous Hammock Shops, The Island Shops and The Shops of Oak Lea, Murrells Inlet and the Harborwalk in Georgetown. You’ll find clothing for all seasons, antiques and gift shops galore, and a full range of original creations by our local artists and craftsmen.

Local restaurants are famous for their regional cuisine. In fact, Murrells Inlet is known as the seafood capital of South Carolina and is just a short drive away. Dress is usually casual, and most restaurants accept reservations.

We offer suggestions on the list which are good for a possible rainy day.  Things like an IMAX movie, museum, shopping and more.

Should you decide to venture further north, you’ll find the bright neon lights of the Grand Strand. Fifteen minutes from Litchfield by the Sea, the arcades, amusement parks and putt-putt golf courses begin in Garden City and continue through Myrtle Beach. Kids of all ages love this congested site of attractions.
